Breaking barriers for Pride Month

June 1, 2023 | News Articles
A group of people standing outdoors, with their fists up. There is a flag they are holding up that says "Steel Pride"

Happy Pride Month to our 2SLGBTQ+ members!

As your director, I am humbled by all of our accomplishments over the past year as we continue to break the barriers within the labour movement for 2SLGBTQ+ people everywhere.

We will continue to bargain language into collective agreements to protect the rights of all our members. As we continue to grow as a district, we continue to organize, educate and mobilize our members to make our union stronger.

Our leadership is a refection of our membership. We will continue to do this by standing together and electing representatives who will be our voices and who we can trust to make legislative changes needed to protect the rights of all people.

Please join the District 6 Human Rights Committee and the Steelworkers Toronto Area Council (STAC) to celebrate Steel Pride in the Toronto Pride Parade on June 25, 2023. We will be dancing with pride down Yonge Street in solidarity with other labour unions.

Happy Pride!

Myles Sullivan
USW District 6 Director
